Shaathi is a social enterprise that began its operations in Bangladesh in 2021. The organization is dedicated to raising awareness about menstrual health and hygiene (MH&H) among women and girls across the country, with the goal of ending period poverty. Shaathi specializes in producing low-cost, washable, and reusable sanitary napkins, ensuring access to clean, affordable, and environmentally friendly menstrual products. Shaathi has developed reusable sanitary napkins with a unique, ready-to-use design. The primary raw material used is organic cotton fabric, ensuring both comfort and sustainability. Shaathi has worked extensively with women and girls in urban and rural schools, madrasas, orphanages, slum areas, factories, and disaster-prone regions, reaching some of the most vulnerable populations.
Ms. Mifrah Zahir, founder of Shaathi Foundation, envisioned a world where menstruation would no longer hinder gender equality and the realization of women and girls’ full potential, every day of the month.
Inspired by this conviction, she embarked on the journey of entrepreneurship in Bangladesh in 2021, laying the foundation for what would become Shaathi Foundation.
Over the past three years, Shaathi Foundation has distributed reusable sanitary napkins to over 50,000 women throughout Bangladesh. Additionally, the organization has established pad banks in 100 schools, ensuring access to menstrual hygiene products for young girls. Working across 08 divisions of Bangladesh, Shaathi Foundation has been dedicated to eradicating period poverty and promoting menstrual health and hygiene. Through these efforts, Shaathi Foundation continues to make a meaningful impact on the lives of women and girls, empowering them to fully participate in society without the hindrance of menstrual challenges.
